[Asia Economy Reporter Changhwan Lee] Audi Volkswagen Korea announced on the 18th that it continued the Classroom Forest Project in the second half of the year to create safe and healthy learning spaces for elementary school students.
The second half Classroom Forest was established at Seoul Macheon Elementary School and Seoul Taereung Elementary School. A total of 840 companion plants, including 14 trees per class for 60 classes, such as Areca Palm, Ficus Audrey, Table Palm, and Crucia?air-purifying plants selected by NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration)?were donated.
The donated plants help purify the air and provide natural humidification functions to students, while also helping to block fine dust and harmful substances from outside.
Audi Volkswagen Korea and its nonprofit partner, Korea Social Investment, explained that they are creating ‘Classroom Forests’ to establish healthy spaces where students can be close to plants.
The Classroom Forest is an expansion of the ‘Green Dream Commute Route’ project jointly promoted with the Seoul Metropolitan Government, and in cooperation with Tree Planet, a social venture that plants trees worldwide, companion plants are donated to elementary school classrooms.
Til Share, Group CEO of Audi Volkswagen Korea, said, "Through the Classroom Forest Project started last year, we have donated more than 2,000 companion plants to 170 classes in six schools so far," adding, "Audi Volkswagen Korea will continue various efforts under the environmental initiative goTOzero."
Meanwhile, along with donating companion plants, Audi Volkswagen Korea conducts online environmental education to raise awareness among students about the seriousness of environmental issues such as climate change and natural disasters and to encourage actions for environmental protection.
This educational program, conducted together with Tree Planet, is based on a business agreement signed with the Ministry of Education to achieve carbon neutrality in schools.
