The 5000 TEU-class container ship 'HMM Privilege' is loading cargo from domestic export companies at Gwangyang Port.
[Asia Economy Reporter Dongwoo Lee] HMM announced on the 18th that its temporary vessels supporting smooth exports of domestic companies have reached 50 voyages.
The 50th temporary vessel, the 5000TEU container ship HMM Privilege, which departed from Gwangyang Port on the same day, is scheduled to carry cargo from domestic export companies and arrive at the Port of Los Angeles (LA) on the 1st of next month via the Port of Tacoma on the 26th of this month. Until now, temporary vessels have been mainly deployed from Busan, and Gwangyang Port is the sixth port to deploy a temporary vessel since the first one was deployed on September 3rd.
HMM plans to deploy a total of six temporary vessels this month, which will bring the total to 54 if all are deployed. Since the first deployment of a temporary vessel on August 30th last year, approximately one temporary vessel has been deployed every week.
Also, on the same day in Busan, the multipurpose vessel (MPV) HMM Antwerp is scheduled to be the 51st deployment. It will be the first temporary vessel deployed on the India route. In addition, temporary vessels will continue to be deployed to New York, Tacoma, LA, and other locations.
HMM is actively deploying temporary vessels on routes with insufficient space, including the Americas, Europe, Russia, Australia, Vietnam, and India, to continuously support cargo transportation for domestic import and export companies. In particular, through strengthened cooperation with organizations such as the Small and Medium Business Corporation, Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation (aT), and Korea International Trade Association, HMM is doing its best to support space for small and medium-sized shippers.
An HMM official stated, “We plan to diversify the routes for deploying temporary vessels to ensure smooth transportation of export cargo from small and medium-sized enterprises,” adding, “As a leading national shipping company, we will do our best to ensure safe transportation with a strong sense of responsibility.”
