Establishment of Korea's First Commercial Vehicle Autonomous Driving Test Bed and Integrated Control System at Saemangeum Driving Test Site
[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] On the 18th, Hyundai AutoEver Consortium announced that it has won the contract for the "Commercial Vehicle High-Speed Autonomous Driving Comprehensive Evaluation Facility (Integrated Control and Evaluation System Section) Construction Service Project" from the Foundation for Automotive Convergence Technology.
The project aims to establish Korea's first commercial vehicle autonomous driving test bed and integrated control system on the Saemangeum Waterfront Road (SMTB) located on the approximately 11 km section of the Saemangeum Seawall and the Saemangeum Driving Test Site at the Foundation for Automotive Convergence Technology (JIAT), realizing the direction of future advanced roads supporting high-speed autonomous vehicles.
The scope of the project includes ▲construction of an integrated control and evaluation facility for commercial vehicle autonomous cooperative (platooning) driving ▲development of a driving evaluation road environment considering autonomous cooperative and platooning high-speed driving tests ▲establishment of intelligent transportation system (C-ITS) linked autonomous driving road infrastructure environment considering autonomous cooperative and platooning driving tests ▲construction of vehicle information collection terminals ▲and establishment of an integrated evaluation system.
Hyundai AutoEver explained that it derived test evaluation items based on international certification evaluation criteria such as perception performance, judgment performance, and control performance, as well as autonomous driving capabilities, to make the test bed usable from parts suppliers to complete vehicle manufacturers. It also defined the test environment from the perspective of considering the operational design domain (ODD) of autonomous vehicles and proposed a configuration plan for an integrated control center to process vast and specialized data.
A Hyundai AutoEver official said, "By successfully building the world's largest test bed capable of autonomous, platooning, and high-speed driving, we will play an important role in leading future vehicle technology by taking charge of one pillar of autonomous driving technology along with high-precision maps."
