[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Hyung-gil] Kyobo Education Foundation announced on the 18th the selection of the winners of the 23rd Kyobo Education Awards.
The grand prize winners are Kim Hyun-su, principal of Seongjang School Byeol, in the 'True Person Development' category; Kim Ui-seong, science teacher at Bojeong High School, in the 'Creative Talent Development' category; Bal-an Manse Small Library in the 'Lifelong Education' category; and Wanju-gun Education Integrated Support Center in the 'Future Education Content' category.
The Kyobo Education Awards ceremony will be held on November 4th at the Kyobo Life Building Convention Hall in Jongno-gu, Seoul, where the grand prize winners will receive a prize of 30 million KRW and a plaque.
Principal Kim Hyun-su, a psychiatrist, established the healing alternative schools Seongjang School Byeol and Youth Happiness School Byeol and has devotedly operated them for 20 years.
Teacher Kim Ui-seong of Bojeong High School was recognized for fostering talents with creativity and self-directedness through process-oriented inquiry experiments.
Bal-an Manse Small Library at Bal-an Manse Market in Hwaseong City contributed to creating a resident-led lifelong learning culture by establishing a customized lifelong learning system for market merchants and local residents.
Wanju-gun Education Integrated Support Center developed and implemented an education integration model through cooperation among local governments, community schools, and the education office to jointly respond to regional educational issues. It was highly praised for suggesting directions for regional education to survive in the era of population decline through future education content such as school-village curricula and parent mediators.
The Kyobo Education Awards were established in 2015 to embody the talent development philosophy of Shin Yong-ho, the founder of Kyobo Life Insurance, who created education insurance and founded Kyobo Book Centre based on the belief that "education is the future of the nation," and to spread the era value of nurturing true persons.
Sun Jong-hak, chairman of the Kyobo Education Foundation, stated, "This year's grand prize winners have devoted themselves to nurturing true persons and promoting national education based on their unique educational philosophies," adding, "We will strive further to ensure that the educational values of the awardees are widely disseminated throughout our society."
