HiRium Industries Signs Joint Development Contract for Hydrogen Unmanned Ship with UK AquaOcean

[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunseok Yoo] Hylium Industries (hereinafter Hylium) is accelerating its liquefied hydrogen mobility business by partnering with a UK marine vessel technology specialist company.

On the 18th, Hylium Industries announced that it signed a contract with UK-based ACUA Ocean to jointly develop a liquefied hydrogen-powered uncrewed surface vessel (H-USV) capable of long-term autonomous unmanned navigation.

Through this contract, Hylium will be responsible for developing the underwater liquefied hydrogen tank and power components required for the hydrogen unmanned vessel. Following its domestic first order for ship-use liquefied hydrogen tanks, the company continues its winning streak by securing orders for liquefied hydrogen unmanned vessels as well.

The H-USV project that Hylium is conducting with ACUA Ocean is a demonstration program under the Clean Maritime Competition supported by the UK Department for Transport. As the UK has long been a pioneer in marine vessel technology, this demonstration project aims to lead the next-generation ship industry utilizing clean green energy.

As a large-scale project supported by the UK government, Hylium plans to maximize synergy effects through collaboration with ACUA Ocean.

A company official stated, “Recently, the government declared its ambition to become a leading nation in clean hydrogen and is strongly promoting the hydrogen industry as a core national future strategy. In line with this, Hylium plans to contribute not only to global market competitiveness but also to national competitiveness based on its unique liquefied hydrogen technology.”

He added, “Hylium continues to achieve results in liquefied hydrogen mobility solutions such as ships and UAM (Urban Air Mobility), and will grow as a leading company driving the liquefied hydrogen ecosystem, including the development of liquefied hydrogen tank trailers. Given the global attention on the hydrogen industry, we also plan to continue active order acquisition activities.”
