Despite COVID-19, 1,500 Booths from Over 700 Companies in 30 Countries Showcase Cutting-Edge Equipment and Technology
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] The Busan International Shipbuilding & Offshore Marine Festival, a major global event in the shipbuilding and offshore plant industry, is set to open in Busan.
Busan City announced on the 18th that from the 19th to the 22nd, a four-day event called the ‘2021 Busan International Shipbuilding & Offshore Marine Festival (KORMARINE)’ will be held at BEXCO, showcasing Busan’s status as a global hub for the shipbuilding and marine industry, along with the latest equipment and technological advancements.
The marine festival, jointly hosted by Busan City, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, the Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Equipment Cooperative, and the Korea Offshore & Shipbuilding Association, has been held biennially on odd-numbered years since 2001, marking its 11th edition this year.
Despite the COVID-19 situation, the exhibition will feature participation from 700 companies across 30 countries, setting up 1,500 booths.
Domestic companies such as Hyundai Heavy Industries, Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering, Korea Gas Corporation, SNS, and BIP, as well as international firms including ABB, EMERSON, KONGSBERG, WARTSILA, and WinGD, will participate.
Ten countries including the Netherlands, Norway, Denmark, Germany, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and Austria will establish joint pavilions.
During the exhibition, in addition to displays of shipbuilding technology, equipment, and marine products, various events such as ‘Technical Seminars,’ ‘Shipbuilding & Marine Equipment Industry Seminars,’ and the ‘Marine Engineering Society’ will be held.
Government, academia, and research institutions will introduce new technologies and suggest future directions for technological development, providing significant support to the related industries currently experiencing a downturn.
Busan City plans to support participating companies’ overseas marketing efforts by hosting a non-face-to-face online export consultation meeting.
The KORMARINE non-face-to-face online exhibition has been ongoing on the exhibition’s official website since September 16 and will continue until the end of this year.
Shin Chang-ho, Director of Industry and Trade at Busan City, said, “Despite the downturn in the shipbuilding industry, many companies are participating in the exhibition, showing their determination to overcome difficulties,” adding, “We will do our best to support overcoming the downturn and to elevate Busan’s status as a global center for the shipbuilding and marine industry.”
The opening ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. on the 19th in front of Exhibition Hall 1 at BEXCO, attended by Kim Yoon-il, Deputy Mayor for Economic Affairs of Busan City, officials from institutions and organizations, and citizens.
