[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] KT announced on the 18th that it has achieved the highest grade (AAA) for two consecutive years in the UN voluntary commitment international eco-friendly certification system ‘GRP,’ the first in the ICT industry.
GRP is a global climate response guideline initiated to reduce plastic and create a sustainable marine environment. The GRP certification is verified through 39 global indicators addressing global environmental issues such as climate change response, plastic reduction, and marine ecosystem protection, and is announced by the UN SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) Association, a UN special consultative status organization.
KT received high evaluations for its eco-friendly management initiatives, including the solar power self-sufficient base station construction project to achieve RE100, and the establishment of a real-time monitoring system for greenhouse gas emissions in all company buildings. Additionally, technologies addressing global warming such as the ‘AI Building Operator,’ which autonomously controls indoor temperatures using artificial intelligence (AI), and green earth campaigns led by the KT labor-management joint sharing council UCC, including ‘Global Lights Off’ and ‘National Park Environmental Cleanup Activities,’ also received high scores.
The UN SDGs Association stated, “The highest GRP grade is awarded to companies that take the lead in responding to global warming and protecting ecosystems,” and added, “KT’s eco-friendly management activities utilizing advanced technology are the reason for its selection as the highest grade.”
KT emphasized, “As a leading company in the ICT industry, we will actively respond to climate change using ABC (Artificial Intelligence, Big Data, Cloud) technologies and advance as an ESG-leading company.”
