Lee Jae-myung 'Stumbles'... Yoon Seok-yeol and Hong Joon-pyo Lead in Virtual One-on-One Matchup

[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] Yoon Seok-yeol, former Prosecutor General and presidential candidate of the People Power Party, showed a lead in public opinion polls including a virtual head-to-head match against Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party presidential candidate, and suitability as a conservative opposition candidate. Lee's support rate showed a slight decline amid the controversy over the Daejang-dong development allegations.

According to a public opinion poll conducted by the Korea Society Opinion Institute (KSOI) on the 15th and 16th at the request of TBS, in a virtual one-on-one match between former Prosecutor General Yoon and candidate Lee, Yoon led within the margin of error with 37.1% compared to Lee's 35.4%. Compared to last week's poll (conducted on the 8th and 9th) with the same outline, Yoon's support rate rose by 3.9 percentage points, while Lee's support rate fell by 0.4 percentage points, resulting in a change in ranking.


People Power Party lawmaker Hong Joon-pyo also led within the margin of error in a virtual one-on-one match against candidate Lee. In the virtual head-to-head, Hong's support rate increased by 2.9 percentage points from the previous survey to 35.9%, surpassing Lee, whose support rate dropped by 0.6 percentage points to 34.6% compared to the previous survey.

In terms of suitability as the next presidential candidate for the broad conservative camp, former Prosecutor General Yoon led with 29.1%. He was followed by lawmaker Hong (28.5%), former lawmaker Yoo Seung-min (11.7%), former Jeju Province Governor Won Hee-ryong (4.8%), and People's Party leader Ahn Cheol-soo (3.4%). Yoon, Hong, and Yoo each saw increases of 3.6, 1.0, and 1.2 percentage points respectively compared to the previous survey.


This survey was conducted using a wireless automated response system (ARS) with mobile phone virtual numbers (safe numbers). The sampling error is ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level. Statistical adjustments applied weights by gender, region, and age based on the resident registration data from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety as of the end of September.
