"From Communication Modules to Routers and External Antennas" LG Uplus Expands 5G 28GHz B2B Ecosystem

[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] LG Uplus announced on the 18th that it has introduced commercial communication modules, routers, and external antennas using the 5G 28 GHz frequency band for business-to-business (B2B) purposes.

Through this commercialization, LG Uplus has established a foundation to significantly expand the 28 GHz service, which was utilized in demonstrations such as the 'subway Wi-Fi' on Seoul Subway Line 2 Seongsu Branch. Going forward, the company plans to expand B2B 5G 28 GHz terminals and external antennas to various industrial sites.

Since early this year, LG Uplus has been collaborating with Hucom Wireless to commercialize 5G 28 GHz terminals. This is the first time a domestic small and medium-sized enterprise has received commercial certification for 5G communication modules and terminals from a mobile carrier.

Additionally, LG Uplus jointly developed external antennas that connect to communication modules and routers to enable the use of 5G 28 GHz services in various industrial fields such as smart factories and ports. The newly developed external antennas accommodate most global LTE frequencies through a box-type design, support 5G 3.5 GHz as well as Qualcomm’s 28 GHz antenna module, and feature waterproof and dustproof capabilities.

Jeon Young-seo, head of LG Uplus Corporate Service Development, stated, "LG Uplus has completed the ‘5G terminal package’ including communication modules, terminals, and built-in and external antennas necessary for the B2B 5G environment, including 28 GHz. We will take the lead in expanding 5G B2B services and fostering the ecosystem."
