Hwasun Chonnam National University Hospital Selected as 'World's Best Hospital for Cancer Treatment'

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Hwasun Jeonnam National University Hospital has been selected as the 'World's Best Hospital for Cancer Treatment' by Newsweek.


On the 17th, according to Hwasun Jeonnam National University Hospital, the American current affairs weekly Newsweek recently selected and announced the '2022 World's Best Hospitals by Clinical Specialty.'


Hwasun Jeonnam National University Hospital ranked 142nd among 250 hospitals worldwide in the field of Oncology.


It is the only hospital outside the metropolitan area among the 13 domestic hospitals selected as the 'World's Best Hospitals,' and one of only two national university hospitals along with Seoul National University Hospital.


Hwasun Jeonnam National University Hospital is evaluated as a 'hospital that excels in cancer treatment,' with a higher 5-year survival rate for cancer patients than large metropolitan hospitals, the highest number of cancer surgeries per bed nationwide, and the highest grade in treatment for six major cancers.


Hospital Director Shin Myung-geun said, "Hwasun Jeonnam National University Hospital has been recognized for its global medical capabilities by being selected as Newsweek's 'World Best Cancer Hospital' for two consecutive years. We will further strive in research, education, and treatment to conquer cancer through next-generation precision medicine, immunotherapy, and innovative medical services utilizing AI and big data."


Meanwhile, for this evaluation, Newsweek formed a panel of 40,000 evaluators from 20 countries worldwide from June to August in collaboration with the global market research firm Statista.


The panel consisted of doctors, healthcare professionals, and hospital administrators, and selected hospitals with high scores in 10 clinical specialties by combining recommendation scores from the panel through online surveys (70%) and evaluation scores from a credible expert group (30%).
