Jeonnam Fire Volunteer Fire Brigade Achieves 1st Place at National Technical Competition 'Great Success'

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Jeonnam Fire Headquarters (Chief Ma Jaeyoon) achieved the great feat of ranking first in the National Volunteer Fire Brigade Skills Competition.

Jeonnam Fire announced on the 17th that it participated in the National Volunteer Fire Brigade Firefighting Skills Competition held at Cheonan Sports Complex from the 12th to the 14th, winning first place in both the men's and women's individual event "Fire Hose Dragging." They received the Fire Agency Chief's Award along with the championship trophy.

Now in its 34th year, this competition was held to improve the firefighting skills of volunteer firefighters nationwide. A total of 209 volunteer firefighters from 19 cities and provinces across the country participated over three days, with participation staggered by time slots and a minimum number of participants per city and province.

In particular, to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the number of attendees was limited to 11 players and 3 staff members per city and province. The competition featured three events: individual events "Men's and Women's Fire Hose Dragging," and team events "Fire Hose Extension Water Spray Posture" and "Personal Equipment Wearing Relay."

The volunteer firefighters representing Jeonnam achieved historic excellent results by winning first place in two categories: ▲Men's Fire Hose Dragging 1st place (Volunteer Firefighter Choi Byungryong from Jangseong-gun) ▲Women's Fire Hose Dragging 1st place (Volunteer Firefighter Choi Youngmi from Jangseong-gun).

Fire Chief Ma Jaeyoon said, "Despite the COVID-19 situation and busy individual schedules, I sincerely thank the volunteer firefighters who demonstrated their honed skills and achieved historically excellent results. I hope this skills competition will serve as an opportunity to further enhance the firefighting skills of volunteer firefighters."

Meanwhile, the Jeonnam Volunteer Fire Brigade consists of 11,346 members across 541 teams in 22 cities and counties. They play the role of local safety guardians by protecting residents' lives and property and preventing various disasters through activities such as COVID-19 infection prevention and quarantine, support for vaccination centers, and helping with farm work in rural areas.

In particular, in preparation for the recent Chuseok holiday, they conducted fire prevention campaigns and infection prevention quarantine support activities at multi-use places such as traditional markets.
