◆Earth Environment Lessons Learned Through the Calendar= This introduces various environmental stories across humanities, history, and science in an easy-to-understand way. It vividly explains how ordinary daily life is closely connected to nature and how each small action changes the ecosystem. It also provides a forum for discussion, emphasizing that issues such as infectious diseases like COVID-19, heatwaves, cold waves, exploitation, poverty, and refugees cannot be discussed without considering the environment.
"The Danish government designated today in 2020 as 'Food Waste Day.' Denmark was traditionally known as a major waste-producing country. Its per capita waste generation far exceeded the European Union average. The same was true for food waste. Denmark managed to reduce food waste, and this started with individual efforts. In 2008, Selina Yul created a small Facebook group called 'Stop Food Waste' and began a campaign to reduce food waste. She posted tips on how to handle leftovers and how to buy only the necessary amount of food. As these activities became known, she collaborated with the Danish government to carry out various campaigns. Examples include 'Eat Your Fridge Day,' cooking leftovers into 'Sunday Tapas,' and sharing ingredients with neighbors before summer vacation. These efforts changed the mindset of the Danish people."
