[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] On the 17th, the People Power Party members of the National Assembly's Legislation and Judiciary Committee accused Prosecutor General Kim Oh-soo of being "proven to be the main body obstructing the investigation of the 'Lee Jae-myung Daejang-dong Gate,'" and demanded, "Immediately relinquish the authority to direct the investigation into the Daejang-dong development corruption and clarify your position on the special prosecutor."
On the same day, Kwon Seon-dong, a member of the People Power Party's Legislation and Judiciary Committee, stated at the National Assembly, "It has been revealed that Prosecutor General Kim had a two-year contract as a legal advisor with Seongnam City Hall, which oversees Daejang-dong, and provided advisory services from December last year until just before his nomination as Prosecutor General," and released a statement containing these details.
Kwon said, "The veil of suspicion over the prosecution's illegal search information leaks, sloppy search and seizure, and clumsy arrest warrant requests, which were previously incomprehensible, is beginning to be lifted," and criticized, "We cannot help but ask whether he fulfilled his solemn duties as the head of the prosecution or continued his behavior as a legal advisor for Seongnam City."
He continued, "Prosecutor General Kim hastily explained his legal advisory activities for Seongnam City as 'a form of local service,' but the fact that he received monthly advisory fees from Seongnam City and separately took on a lawsuit regarding Seongnam City's construction payment with an initial retainer of about 13 million won cannot be hidden," adding, "This propaganda that disguises paid work as local service reminds us of Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party presidential candidate who loudly proclaims the Daejang-dong power corruption case as 'the greatest intellectual scandal since Dangun.'
He further stated, "If he is confident about these suspicions, Prosecutor General Kim should immediately relinquish the authority to direct the investigation into the Daejang-dong development corruption and clarify his position on the special prosecutor."
The People Power Party members of the Legislation and Judiciary Committee warned, "We strongly warn Prosecutor General Kim, Central District Prosecutor Lee Jung-soo, and the Daejang-dong dedicated investigation team," emphasizing, "Refusing the people's mandate to uncover the substantive truth and colluding with power to turn a blind eye to corruption is an unforgivable mistake of Kim Oh-soo's prosecution and another act of breach of trust, which will be a clear reason for the necessity of a special prosecutor."
