Death Caused by Oxygen Tank Flying During MRI Scan... Due to 'Strong Magnetism'

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jin-ho] A patient preparing for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) died after being struck in the chest by a flying oxygen tank.

According to the police on the 17th, the incident occurred on the afternoon of the 14th at a hospital in Gimhae-si, Gyeongnam Province, resulting in the death of a patient in their 60s.

Medical staff present at the scene at the time of the accident told the police that the MRI machine, which has strong magnetism, was operating, causing a nearby metal oxygen tank to suddenly move and cause the accident. The oxygen tank was about the height of a person, and the loud noise at the time of the incident was reportedly audible even outside.

The police are currently investigating hospital officials regarding why the metal oxygen tank was near the MRI machine, their statements, and whether there was any negligence.
