[Asia Economy Reporter Jin-ho Kim] Former Board of Audit and Inspection Chairman Choi Jae-hyung has officially joined the campaign of Hong Joon-pyo, a presidential candidate from the People Power Party.

On the 17th, Hong and Choi emphasized a "value alliance toward the historic task of regime change and political reform" in a joint statement at an event held at the Yeouido campaign office in Seoul.

The two stated, "We have promised to unite our efforts in response to the public's strong desire for regime change," adding, "The most important competitiveness lies in the candidate's morality and expansiveness."

They further added, "Hong's competitiveness, which includes nationwide expansiveness covering all generations including the 2030 generation and opposition party strongholds, will be a solid foundation for regime change."

At the event, former Chairman Choi explained his support for Hong by saying, "The first prerequisite is that our party's candidate must be someone who can defeat the ruling party candidate in the general election," and "(Hong) is a candidate who can achieve unity."

In response, Hong said, "Former Chairman Choi's image as 'Mr. Clean' represents the ideal public official in our country," and "His joining will be a 'game changer' in the primary election."

Meanwhile, former lawmaker Kim Seon-dong, who assisted former Chairman Choi during the primary process, also joined Hong's campaign as the head of the general election campaign headquarters. Hong stated, "He was the head of the Daejeon campaign committee for Democratic Party presidential primary candidate Lee Nak-yeon, but he has left the party and promised to join our campaign as an advisor to the Daejeon campaign committee." According to Hong's camp, the person who promised to join is Ko Jae-pyeong, the head of Lee Nak-yeon's Daejeon campaign committee.
