"Enjoy Car Camping and Experience AI Robots" KT, Jeju Island and DIGICO Camping Families enjoying camping at the 'DIGICO Camping in Jeju' event on the 15th


[Asia Economy Reporter Seulgina Cho] KT is presenting a safe and new alternative for travel and camping culture in the With Corona era.


KT announced on the 17th that it signed a business agreement with Jeju Tourism Organization to cooperate in developing a safe and new travel platform, and jointly with Jeju Special Self-Governing Province and Jeju Tourism Organization, conducted ‘DIGICO Camping in Jeju’ to promote ‘Carbon-Free Island Jeju Travel.’


‘Carbon-Free Island Jeju Travel’ refers to traveling in a way that preserves Jeju’s pristine nature through the practice of ‘Net Zero’ carbon neutrality, which is actively discussed worldwide. In line with this travel purpose, from the 15th to the 16th, an eco-friendly electric vehicle camping event ‘DIGICO Camping in Jeju’ was held at Gimnyeong Beach Campground.


DIGICO Camping is one of the various communication methods attempted after CEO Koo Hyun-mo declared KT’s transformation into a digital platform company, aiming to easily deliver and allow experience of ‘ABC (AI, Big Data, Cloud)’ technologies. Considering the conditions where group tours or large-scale experiential events are inevitably restricted due to COVID-19, participants were allowed to experience car camping in a safe space for their families using a non-face-to-face and contactless method. From entry to exit of the campground, all processes were conducted contactlessly, and convenience items, ingredients, and beverages needed for camping were autonomously delivered by AI serving robots, minimizing contact among participants.


Participants also experienced low-carbon cooking using electric vehicle battery power instead of a wood fire pit, and while driving electric vehicles between the airport, campground, and tourist attractions, they experienced Jeju’s ‘Smart Road (C-ITS, next-generation intelligent transportation system)’ built by KT through ‘KT One Navi.’ Additionally, they enjoyed movies and dramas recommended by AI curation from KT’s video service ‘Seezn,’ as well as webtoons and web novels from ‘Blyse.’ In the evening, they connected from Jeju to a ‘Random Cooking’ class held in Seoul via ‘KT Biz Meet’ and enjoyed cooking while camping.


Park Yewon, who participated in ‘DIGICO Camping in Jeju,’ said, “I experienced a non-face-to-face random cooking class with KT technology and enjoyed KT’s content and digital platform services while having a safe non-face-to-face camping experience.”

Through the business agreement, KT and Jeju Tourism Organization agreed to create a convergence role model of digital platform technology and integrated tourism marketing and to jointly build a ‘Carbon-Free Island Jeju’ through successful business cooperation. Their goal is to promote the spread of low-carbon tourism travel trends by utilizing KT’s digital platform technologies such as AI robots and Smart Road (C-ITS).


Kim Hyungwook, Head of KT Future Value Promotion Office (Vice President), said, “With the cooperation of Jeju Special Self-Governing Province and Jeju Tourism Organization, we jointly promoted the DIGICO Camping in Jeju event in line with the era trend of carbon neutrality,” adding, “In the With Corona era, Jeju and DIGICO KT will create a platform for new camping and travel by leveraging their respective strengths.”
