Jongno-gu Captures Jobs for Both Youth and New Middle-Aged Workers

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Jongno-gu (District Mayor Kim Young-jong) has achieved the great success of having a total of two projects selected in Seoul City's '2022 City-District Upward and Cooperative Job Creation Contest,' securing 278 million KRW in city funds.

Earlier, Jongno-gu established a dedicated team called the ‘Youth Support Team’ on September 1st this year to address and support various issues faced by the youth. In addition, to revitalize the employment market weakened by the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic and to assist residents with start-ups and employment, the district applied for this contest.

The distinctive job creation projects unique to Jongno that will gain momentum through this selection are ▲ the establishment of a content cluster for training youth content professionals (new project in 2022) and ▲ the integrated online-offline local concierge service project (continuing project).

The content cluster establishment focuses on training related experts, matching job seekers with companies, and supporting start-ups. This is based on building a platform aimed at generating revenue and securing sales channels for trainees. Plans include operating expert training, supporting creator activities after completion, and collaborating with Seoul City and Jongno-gu.

Also, the local concierge service, which has been operating since this year, was selected as a continuing project for next year, ensuring continuity. It centers on utilizing the district’s abundant cultural and artistic resources to develop and operate online local tourism experience products and virtual tours in response to the post-COVID-19 environment.

Considering the downturn in the travel industry, the project targets the middle-aged group with diverse experiences as the main participants. This year, efforts included creating a complex cultural space called ‘Jongno Leisure’ for local residents and tourists, hosting virtual tour programs via YouTube, developing food and beverage products and rental services, and signing MOUs with related organizations.

District Mayor Kim Young-jong stated, “The selection of these contest projects has accelerated the provision of quality jobs for local youth and the middle-aged population,” adding, “We will do our best at the community level to create good jobs for residents of all age groups, not just the youth.”
