[Asia Economy Reporter Seoyoung Kwon] Former Dongyang University professor Jin Joong-kwon left evaluations for each candidate regarding the one-on-one debates held on the 15th among the People Power Party primary candidates.
On the 16th, Professor Jin wrote on his Facebook, "I watched a proper debate after a long time," adding, "The debate between candidates Won Hee-ryong and Yoo Seung-min was high-level and speedy, so it was not boring." He continued, "It was close, but candidate Won had a slight edge," and evaluated, "Candidate Won seemed to have self-contained pledges based on his experience as governor, whereas candidate Yoo appeared to engage in argumentative debates to showcase his knowledge and skills, missing opportunities to positively highlight his own pledges."
Regarding the debate between candidates Yoon Seok-youl and Hong Joon-pyo, Professor Jin said, "It was somewhat disappointing for a debate between the first and second place candidates," and added, "The failure to move into policy discussion was due to candidate Hong consistently resorting to negativity." He also noted, "Candidate Hong seemed to have come to the debate with the purpose of emphasizing the 'Yoon Seok-youl risk' among his supporters," but "candidate Yoon repeatedly countered those remarks."
Professor Jin pointed to candidate Yoon's remark as a 'memorable counterpunch.' He commented on Yoon's statement, "Didn't candidate Hong also receive a guilty verdict in the first trial?" saying, "He has become more relaxed and improved a lot."
Professor Jin concluded, "Today's MVP is candidate Won," adding, "He revitalized the People Power Party debate." Regarding candidate Hong's comment, "Can you beat Lee Jae-myung in a debate?" Jin said, "If candidate Yoo had said that, it would have been understandable," and added, "I hope they will be more composed and serious like presidential candidates in the future," criticizing, "He is like an old man who drinks and picks fights with passersby."
