[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Suhwan] The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) has decided not to allow the leader of Myanmar's military government to attend the upcoming summit at the end of this month.

According to major foreign media on the 16th, Brunei, the chair country of ASEAN, announced this decision on the same day.

The ASEAN summit will be held from the 26th to the 28th of this month.

ASEAN held a virtual meeting of foreign ministers the day before to discuss whether to permit Min Aung Hlaing, Commander-in-Chief of the Myanmar military, to attend the summit.

Foreign media reported that instead of allowing the Myanmar military government leader to attend the summit, ASEAN will request a non-political figure to participate in the meeting.
