6 Confirmed Cases in Gwangju on the 15th... Half the Number Compared to Jeonju, 'Spread Calming Down'

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] The spread of COVID-19 in the Gwangju area appears to have somewhat subsided.

According to Gwangju Metropolitan City on the 16th, 6 people (local infections) tested positive in one day yesterday, classified as numbers 5239 to 5244.

A total of 42 confirmed cases occurred this week, which is more than a twofold decrease compared to the previous week (85 cases).

Looking at the daily confirmed cases over the past five days: ▲11th - 7 cases ▲12th - 14 cases ▲13th - 10 cases ▲14th - 5 cases ▲15th - 6 cases, generally recording single digits, showing a calming trend.

This decrease is attributed to the local vaccination rate exceeding 60%, entering the phase of daily life recovery, which has slowed the transmission speed and reduced the number of tests.

Among the new confirmed cases, number 5241, an elementary school student, was infected after contact with their mother, number 5240. The initial infection route was investigated to be related to number 2466 in Geumcheon-gu, Seoul.

The quarantine authorities conducted comprehensive testing at the school where confirmed cases appeared and are investigating whether additional confirmed cases have occurred.

One case (5239) related to testing of foreigners located in Gwangsan-gu was reported.

Number 5242 was confirmed to be related to a confirmed case residing in Seoul, and number 5243 was linked to Jeonnam number 3352.

Number 5244 was classified as a close contact of a local confirmed case and entered self-quarantine, then tested positive during a symptomatic test.
