[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Suhwan] The Gold Globe, a U.S. film awards ceremony boasting a 78-year history, is expected to face disruption.

This is because the Golden Globe, confronted with a boycott from the U.S. film and TV industry over allegations of racial discrimination and corruption, has decided to proceed with the awards ceremony in January next year.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), which organizes the Golden Globe, announced on the 15th (local time) that the 79th awards ceremony will be held on January 9 next year.

The Hollywood Reporter, a film industry media outlet, stated, "The Golden Globe intends to go ahead with the ceremony," and assessed that HFPA's announcement will only provoke resentment among film and TV industry professionals who have declared they will not attend.

The Golden Globe is considered one of the two major U.S. film awards alongside the Academy Awards, but it became the target of a boycott last May.

This was due to its predominantly white membership, controversies over gender discrimination, and allegations of corruption stemming from opaque financial management.

More than 100 PR agencies representing Hollywood stars declared a boycott of the ceremony, and major U.S. production companies such as Warner Bros. and Netflix also joined the boycott.

Hollywood star Tom Cruise returned all the acting award trophies he had received so far.

NBC, which has broadcast the ceremony live every year, also declared it will not air next year's event.

However, the HFPA expressed its determination to hold the event by confirming the schedule for next year's ceremony on the same day.

The Hollywood Reporter pointed out that the Golden Globe ceremony could become an event without live broadcast or stars, possibly limited to a press release announcement.

The signs of disruption at the Golden Globe are not limited to this.

There are also forecasts that many film and drama production companies will not submit works for nomination selection at the ceremony.

Moreover, the Golden Globe set the event date on the same day as the 'Critics Choice' awards, organized by U.S. film and television critics, which provoked backlash from Hollywood critics.

The Critics Choice Association criticized the Golden Globe's January 9 ceremony date as a "hostile act."
