The Most Popular Used Car in Q3... "Grandeur HG"

[Asia Economy Reporter Changhwan Lee] The most popular used car model in the domestic market during the third quarter was Hyundai Motor Company's Grandeur HG.

On the 16th, Encar.com announced that an analysis of used car listings on its platform for the third quarter of this year showed that the Hyundai Grandeur had the highest number of registrations.

Among the top 20 models registered from July to September this year, the number one model was the Grandeur HG, which also ranked first in registrations from 2017 to 2019. The second place was taken by the Grandeur IG, the successor to the Grandeur HG, proving the status of the national sedan. Following were the All New Carnival in third place, the E-Class W213 in fourth, and the Avante AD in fifth.

While domestic cars dominated the top 20 rankings, imported cars maintained their popularity with only three models registered: the Mercedes-Benz E-Class W213, which ranked fourth, and the BMW 5 Series (G30) and 5 Series (F10), continuing the popularity of German sedans.

Looking at the models by type, despite the recent dominance of SUVs (Sports Utility Vehicles), the most registered vehicles were sedans. Among the 20 top models, 12 were sedans, with Hyundai models such as the Grandeur, Avante, and Sonata making up the largest share.

Unlike sedans, which were dominated by Hyundai models, SUVs and RVs had a higher proportion of Kia vehicles. Among SUVs and RVs, the only model in the top 10 was the All New Carnival. Outside the top 10 were the All New Tucson (13th), All New Sorento (15th), and The New Carnival (16th). In the case of compact cars, the Ray and All New Morning ranked 6th and 7th respectively, securing spots within the top 10.

An Encar.com official stated, “Models that were popular in the new car market are also popular in the used car market, resulting in a large number of listings. The used car market is growing every year, and it is expected that the volume of used car transactions will approach 4 million units this year, with a wide variety of listings available, expanding consumer choices.”
