[Asia Economy Reporter Gong Byung-sun] There have been over 200 reported cases of abnormal hair loss reactions following COVID-19 vaccination. Among these, female reporters were found to be nearly three times more than male reporters.

According to data submitted by the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA) to Kang Sun-woo, a member of the National Assembly's Health and Welfare Committee from the Democratic Party of Korea, as of the 10th of this month, 240 reports related to hair loss abnormalities had been received.

By gender, women accounted for 172 cases, about three times more than the 68 cases reported by men. By age group, those in their 50s had the highest number with 80 cases, followed by 54 cases in their 60s and 41 cases in their 40s.

By vaccine type, AstraZeneca had the highest number with 98 cases. This was followed by Pfizer with 71 cases, Moderna with 65 cases, and Janssen with 6 cases showing hair loss abnormal reactions.

Assemblyman Kang emphasized, “The KDCA should clearly identify the causal relationship between the vaccine and adverse reactions and explain it to the public,” adding, “Monitoring of various adverse reactions should also be strengthened.”

A KDCA official stated, “No causal relationship between vaccination and hair loss abnormal reactions has been confirmed,” and added, “There is no related data from the World Health Organization (WHO), the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), or the European Medicines Agency (EMA), and monitoring is ongoing.”
