[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs announced on the 15th that it plans to maintain the initial application standard of "all livestock species within 500m" for preventive culling in the event of a highly pathogenic avian influenza (AI) outbreak until the end of this month.
Since this month, the Ministry has been setting and operating the scope of preventive culling proportional to the risk level when highly pathogenic AI occurs.
After collecting expert opinions and undergoing procedures, the Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency conducted a risk assessment over two weeks earlier this month, finding no significant changes in risk related to adjusting the culling scope.
Accordingly, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs stated that it will maintain the initial application standard of "all livestock species within 500m" for preventive culling in the event of a highly pathogenic AI outbreak until the end of this month.
Going forward, after conducting risk assessments every two weeks, if there is no need to adjust the culling scope, the existing application range will be maintained.
