[Asia Economy Reporter Yoon Seul-gi] A woman in her 20s, a university student in Chungju, Chungbuk, who received the second dose of Pfizer's COVID-19 vaccine, died 19 days later, prompting health authorities to investigate the cause of death.

According to Chungbuk Province on the 14th, university student A (24, female) was found dead in a one-room apartment in Chungju on the 10th.

The police responded to a report from the family saying "We cannot contact our daughter" and found A collapsed inside the room.

According to the police, it was estimated that A had been dead for about a day at the time of discovery, and there were no signs of suicide or homicide such as external intrusion. The first autopsy by the National Forensic Service showed an unknown cause of death.

A was confirmed to have received the first dose of the Pfizer vaccine on August 16 and completed the second dose on September 18. She was preparing her graduation project as she was about to graduate from the College of Fine Arts.

The bereaved family claims that A had no underlying health conditions and was healthy, asserting vaccine side effects. The family said, "Our healthy child left this world at a young age, so we can only think it was due to vaccine side effects," adding, "It breaks our hearts to think she might have suffered alone while preparing for graduation."

Currently, health authorities are verifying the causal relationship with the vaccine. A Chungbuk official said, "An adverse reaction report has been received, and related materials will be sent to the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency," adding, "It is expected to take about 2 to 3 months to determine the results, including causality with the vaccine."

In Chungbuk, 7,508 adverse reaction reports related to vaccines have been received as of the previous day. Among them, 128 cases were severe (46 deaths, 62 major adverse reactions such as ICU admissions, and 20 anaphylaxis cases).
