[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] COVID-19 vaccinations for adolescents aged 16 to 17 will begin on the 18th. After vaccination, it is advised to rest for 2 to 3 days and avoid intense exercise for one week.

On the 14th, the Ministry of Education held a meeting with the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA) the previous day to review the preparation status for vaccinations of 16- to 17-year-olds and discuss measures to maintain a cooperative support system for vaccination.

As precautions for vaccine recipients, it was emphasized to rest for 2 to 3 days after vaccination and to avoid vigorous exercise for about one week.

Adverse reaction situations will be shared continuously, and if any adverse reactions occur during school activities, rapid linkage with medical institutions will be ensured. Focused support will also be provided for the prognosis and attendance management of students with severe adverse reactions.

On the same day, the Ministry of Education held the 17th Daily Recovery Support Group meeting chaired by the Vice Minister, with participation from deputy superintendents of metropolitan and provincial offices of education. They emphasized re-communicating pre- and post-vaccination precautions to students and parents through schools and urged efforts to support safe vaccinations.

Additionally, official letters were sent to each school to re-inform students and parents about precautions before and after pediatric and adolescent vaccinations.

As of midnight that day, the pre-registration rate for vaccinations among 16- to 17-year-olds was 51.9% (about 466,000) of the total eligible population of approximately 898,000.

Pre-registration for 16- to 17-year-old vaccinations will continue until 6 p.m. on the 29th. Pre-registration can be done individually via the website or call center by the individual or a proxy, and vaccinations can be scheduled at the nearest medical institution regardless of the registrant’s address. Vaccinations for 16- to 17-year-olds will be administered from the 18th through the 13th of next month.

When getting vaccinated, bring an ID card. If not accompanied by a guardian, bring a consent form and a pre-screening questionnaire completed together with the guardian. To prevent adverse reactions before vaccination, it is recommended not to take antipyretic analgesics. If you have underlying health conditions, consult with your usual medical institution before vaccination.

After vaccination, absences for up to 2 days will be recognized as excused absences. From the third day after vaccination, attendance will be excused for illness if accompanied by a doctor's note.

For those aged 12 to 15 (born 2006?2009), pre-registration will be conducted from the 18th through November 12th, with vaccinations taking place from November 1st to 27th.

Deputy Prime Minister Yoo Eun-hye and KDCA Commissioner Jung Eun-kyung stated, "Since parents have significant concerns about adverse reactions after vaccination, we will communicate frequently with experts to address any questions. Regarding the upcoming College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT) scheduled for November 18, we will prepare thoroughly for strict quarantine management based on last year’s experience."
