The funds will be used for reducing community disparities, responding to the climate crisis, and community-centered care.
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Ministry of the Interior and Safety and the Ministry of Health and Welfare announced on the 14th that they will hold a 'Ministry of the Interior and Safety - Ministry of Health and Welfare - Community Chest of Korea - Regional Problem Solving Platform' agreement ceremony and launch a fundraising campaign for resident participation in solving regional problems.
The agreement ceremony will be held on the 15th at the Community Chest of Korea Central Office in Seoul, attended by Jeon Hae-cheol, Minister of the Interior and Safety, Kwon Deok-cheol, Minister of Health and Welfare, Cho Heung-sik, Chairman of the Community Chest of Korea, and Yoon Jong-hwa, Chairman of the National Council of the Regional Problem Solving Platform.
The fundraising campaign will be conducted over three years until 2024, following a pilot period from November this year to January next year. It targets local public enterprises, public institutions, and companies that grow together with the local community. This campaign was prepared to solve various problems in local communities through public-private cooperation, and the funds raised will be used to support three major social issues: mitigating social disparities caused by COVID-19, resident-led climate crisis response, and local-centered care and social service sectors.
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety and the Ministry of Health and Welfare will play roles in discovering local community issues and linking private resources. The Community Chest of Korea, centered on the central office and 17 city and provincial branches nationwide, will manage the overall fundraising campaign and support projects, while the Regional Problem Solving Platform will be responsible for identifying common agendas and the practical execution of projects.
Kwon Deok-cheol, Minister of Health and Welfare, said, “Through this fundraising campaign based on active participation and cooperation across various fields, we hope to greatly contribute to improving the quality of life of the people, such as expanding community care and social services.” Jeon Hae-cheol, Minister of the Interior and Safety, said, “As solving regional problems through voluntary participation and cooperation of local residents and companies is important, I hope this event will be a good opportunity to spread participation to revitalize local communities.”
