First Official Explanation on Daejang-dong Involvement Allegations
Choi Tae-won, Chairman of the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry, is giving a greeting at the meeting between Deputy Prime Minister Hong Nam-ki and heads of economic organizations held at the Chamber Lounge of the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Jung-gu, Seoul on October 8, 2021.
[Asia Economy Reporter Dongwoo Lee] Chey Tae-won, Chairman of the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry and SK Group, dismissed allegations of preferential treatment in the Seongnam Daejang-dong development as "completely unrelated."
On the afternoon of the 13th, Chairman Chey met with reporters at the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry and said, "I am aware that completely unfounded stories are being spread about this issue and we are responding accordingly," adding, "I want to make it clear that neither I nor SK Group are involved in this."
Chairman Chey mentioned that he recently learned during the Chuseok holiday that his younger sister had invested in the Daejang-dong project.
He said, "I found out during Chuseok what Daejang-dong is, whether my younger sister invested, and what the connection might be. What I heard is only what has been reported in the media, and since I have no involvement, I do not know how things are unfolding."
He added, "My younger sister is in her late 50s, so she acts on her own, and I do not pay attention to her. When I asked if the investment fact was true, I was simply told that it was."
Earlier, SK Group filed a police complaint against individuals associated with a YouTube channel that claimed Chairman Chey and SK Group were involved in the Hwacheon Daeyu preferential treatment controversy.
