Eunpyeong Library and Mokpo Jeil Girls' High School Receive Presidential Citation for Outstanding Libraries

Award Ceremony at the National Library of Korea International Conference Hall on the 13th

On the 13th, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced that it will award government honors to fifty-three outstanding libraries selected through an operational evaluation. There are two Presidential Citations, five Prime Minister Citations, six Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education Citations, thirty-three Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Citations, and seven Special Awards from the Chairperson of the Library and Information Policy Committee. The highest honor, the Presidential Citation, goes to Eunpyeong-gu Public Library in Seoul and Mokpo Jeil Girls' High School in Jeonnam. The former established an online book recommendation platform in response to changes brought by COVID-19 and improved facilities for people with disabilities. The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism stated, "They expanded services for vulnerable groups to bridge the knowledge and information gap." The latter activated reading education by operating various library-based classes that broaden students' thinking and awareness, such as the 'Reading Marathon' and the 'Convergent Reading Essay Program.' The award ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. on the same day at the International Conference Hall of the National Library of Korea. It will be conducted simply to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
