110 Million Accounts Watched... Fastest Growth Ever
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Suhwan] 'Squid Game' has become the Netflix original series with the highest number of viewers ever.
On the 12th (local time), CNN reported that according to Netflix's own data, 111 million accounts worldwide have watched Squid Game, making it the biggest hit in Netflix history.
Considering that Netflix currently has a total of 209 million subscribers, this means that more than half of the global subscribers have watched Squid Game.
The previous highest-viewed Netflix original series was the American show 'Bridgerton,' which was watched by approximately 82 million accounts.
According to Netflix, the number of accounts that watched Squid Game is about 30 million more than the previous biggest hit, 'Bridgerton.'
In particular, CNN reported that Squid Game achieved this record just 27 days after its release on September 17, making it the fastest-growing Netflix original series in terms of viewer count. Based on total viewers within the first month from the release date, Squid Game surpassed Netflix hits like 'House of Cards' and 'La Casa de Papel' (Money Heist).
CNN analyzed, "This record clearly shows the tremendous popularity of Squid Game."
Kim Minyoung, Netflix Vice President in charge of content production in the Asia-Pacific region, said, "When Netflix started investing in Korea in 2015, the goal was to create world-class Korean content," adding, "Squid Game has realized what we only imagined."
As of this date, Squid Game is ranked number one in 94 countries worldwide, including the United States.
