Tourism Organization Hosts Walking Tour Event to Overcome COVID-19 Depression

[Asia Economy Reporter Donghyun Choi] The Korea Tourism Organization announced on the 13th that it will hold a non-face-to-face and dispersed walking travel event, "Walking Korea Again," from the 16th to November 30th to help the public overcome COVID-19 depression caused by the prolonged pandemic and to promote the culture of non-face-to-face walking travel.

Participants in the non-face-to-face walking travel event can receive prizes by selecting their desired walking route on the organization's walking travel information app, "Durunubi," and using the "Follow" function to walk the course individually. When participants pass through the three mandatory checkpoints set on each walking route, they can receive a completion certificate.

Upon completing one section of the walking route, participants will be awarded a 5,000 KRW mobile Onnuri gift certificate, which can be used at traditional markets to support small business owners struggling due to COVID-19. Participants can join up to three times during the event period. Additionally, the Korea Tourism Organization will select the top 50 participants with the highest cumulative distance on the Durunubi app's "Follow" feature as "Walking Kings of Korea" and will award certificates and National Tourism Gift Certificates worth up to 500,000 KRW on a tiered basis.

Jung Yong-moon, head of the Leisure Tourism Team at the Korea Tourism Organization, said, "We hope that through safe, non-face-to-face, and dispersed walking travel, people can heal their minds and bodies exhausted by COVID-19 and experience the charm of walking travel." He added, "Since we cannot yet let our guard down against COVID-19, we ask participants to strictly follow quarantine rules such as wearing masks and maintaining a 2-meter distance."
