Security Industry Also Boards the 'Metaverse' Without Missing Out

[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] The metaverse (virtual space) wave is sweeping through the security industry. As the non-face-to-face society caused by COVID-19 continues, the metaverse industry is emerging as a new growth engine for the sector. Security companies are actively adopting metaverse platforms to nurture talent while collaborating with related technology firms to expand their business into the metaverse.

◆ Security Industry "Catch the Metaverse" = According to the industry on the 13th, Raon Secure, an IT integrated security and authentication company, and its subsidiary Raon Whitehat recently partnered with Sparrow, a software security specialist company, to develop educational content and solutions related to software security. This is to strengthen the non-face-to-face security education business. They are jointly developing software security vulnerability diagnosis practical training content and plan to add it to Raon Whitehat’s non-face-to-face security practice education service, ‘Raon CTF.’

Raon Whitehat is also developing VR-based interactive immersive educational content together with GlobePoint. The goal is to implement a virtual practice environment almost identical to face-to-face practice. They plan to build an innovative non-face-to-face practical education service by combining Raon CTF, the blockchain DID-based non-face-to-face identity verification platform ‘OmniOne,’ and GlobePoint’s metaverse education service ‘VRWARE.’

Lee Jung-ah, CEO of Raon Whitehat, said, "In the post-COVID era, the metaverse has established itself as a ‘new normal’ trend," adding, "Going forward, the metaverse will be rapidly applied not only in education but also in various industries such as commerce, healthcare, and finance."

Eastsoft is attempting to transform from a security and antivirus software (SW) company into an artificial intelligence (AI) company. They are currently focusing on research into AI technologies that will lead metaverse innovation, such as ‘immersion induction,’ large-scale data processing, and intelligent object generation.

In particular, its subsidiary DeepEye recently launched the eyewear shopping platform ‘ROUNZ,’ which combines AI and AR technologies, marking its first step into ‘metaverse commerce.’ ROUNZ is the first in Korea to develop an eyewear virtual fitting service by combining deep learning-based facial recognition technology with 3D rendering technology. Its technological prowess was recognized when it was selected as Apple’s representative AR service.

Last year, related sales exceeded 5 billion KRW. An Eastsoft official said, "We are focusing our development capabilities on technologies applicable to the metaverse era," adding, "We will lead the development of the domestic IT industry and the establishment of the artificial intelligence technology ecosystem."

◆ Talent Development Also Through the Metaverse = ADT Caps is actively utilizing metaverse platforms in its educational business to cultivate future-oriented talent. This is to help trainees who will lead the future quickly adapt to new virtual spaces and develop various new businesses using them.

Currently, ADT Caps operates two educational courses, ‘Cloud Security Convergence Expert’ and ‘Cloud-based Data Security Expert,’ through the ‘K-Digital Training’ project led by the Ministry of Employment and Labor. The metaverse platform is used throughout the entire educational process, including orientation, lectures, and presentations. In August, the K-Digital Training Cloud Security Project presentation was also held in the metaverse.

Kang Yong-seok, head of ADT Caps Infosec Growth Business Group, said, "We proactively introduced the metaverse platform, which is gaining popularity as a communication tool among young people, into the educational process so that trainees can experience it," adding, "We will accelerate the development of various educational courses using the metaverse and the promotion of new businesses linked to the metaverse."
