[AK Opinion Poll] Yoon Seok-yeol Slightly Leads Lee Jae-myung in Virtual Matchup Within Margin of Error

[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] On the 10th, Lee Jae-myung, the candidate elected as the Democratic Party's presidential candidate (current Governor of Gyeonggi Province), was found to be trailing former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-youl by 6.0 percentage points (within the margin of error) in a hypothetical matchup. Lee's approval rating did not exceed 40% due to the impact of the Daejang-dong development preferential treatment allegations, which have emerged as a 'black hole' in the presidential race. Although former Prosecutor General Yoon's approval rating dropped by 2.2 percentage points from the previous week due to successive controversies such as the "king (王)" character on his palm, he still led Lee within the margin of error with a 45.6% approval rating.

In the hypothetical matchup between Lee and former Prosecutor General Yoon conducted on the 9th and 10th, Yoon received 45.6% and Lee 39.6%. "Other figures" accounted for 8.5%, and "none/don't know" was 6.3%. The gap between the two candidates was 6.0 percentage points, within the margin of error. Compared to the previous survey (conducted on September 25-26), Yoon's rating fell by 2.2 percentage points, while Lee's rose by 1.3 percentage points.

By age group, Lee trailed Yoon in all age groups except for those in their 40s (60.8%) and 50s. Yoon showed an advantage among those aged 18-29 (41.5%), 30s (44.8%), and 60 and above (57.7%). In the 50s age group, both Lee and Yoon had equal support at 46.7%.

By region, Lee's approval rating surpassed Yoon's in Daejeon, Sejong, Chungcheong (47.1%), Gwangju, Jeonbuk, Jeonnam (61.7%), and Gangwon, Jeju (44.1%). Yoon led Lee in Seoul (49.0%), Gyeonggi, Incheon (43.6%), Daegu, Gyeongbuk (58.1%), and Busan, Ulsan, Gyeongnam (63.6%). By party support, 77.5% of Democratic Party supporters said they support Lee, while 82.8% of People Power Party supporters responded that they support Yoon.
