[Asia Economy Reporter Hyungsoo Park] The stock price of city gas supplier GSE is on the rise. As natural gas and electricity prices in Europe hit record highs, the stock price appears to be affected.
At 10:17 a.m. on the 12th, GSE was trading at 3,430 won, up 11.36% from the previous trading day.
European benchmark Dutch natural gas rose 6.1% to 91.85 euros per MWh. The UK contract also surged above the record high of 238 pence. Germany's electricity for next year jumped 7.4% to 126.50 euros per MWh.
European electricity experts predicted that natural gas supply shortages would worsen as the winter season begins. Qatar, the world's largest liquefied natural gas (LNG) producer, stated that it is difficult to dramatically increase production in the short term despite soaring natural gas prices.
Saad Al-Kaabi, Qatar's Minister of Energy, said at an event held in Doha, Qatar on the 11th (local time), "We are currently producing 80 million tons of natural gas annually," adding, "(This is) the maximum capacity we can currently produce."
