Songpa-gu Selected for Life SOC Complex Project, Secures 2 Billion KRW Each from National and City Budgets... Family Center & Daycare Combined Complex Facility Supports Public Childcare, Family Interaction & Communication
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Songpa-gu (Mayor Park Seong-su) announced on the 11th that it has secured 4 billion KRW in funding for the construction project of the ‘Songpa Family Center and Daycare’ as part of the comprehensive development plan for the Geoyeon-Macheon area.
According to the district, the ‘Songpa Family Center and Daycare Construction Project’ was finally selected in September for the 2022 Living SOC Complex Project competition hosted by the Office for Government Policy Coordination, securing 2 billion KRW in national funds out of the total project cost of 6.9 billion KRW.
Additionally, the district will receive an extra 2 billion KRW in city funds by 2024, securing a total of 4 billion KRW to accelerate the project’s progress.
Songpa-gu plans to build the ‘Songpa Family Center and Daycare,’ a complex facility combining a family center and a public daycare, with a total floor area of 1,836㎡ and a scale of one basement floor to four above-ground floors, on the public office site at 194-3 Geoyeodong (Geoye2-1 District), aiming for its opening in March 2025.
Once completed, it is expected to meet the increasing childcare demand due to redevelopment in the Geoyeon-Macheon area, provide necessary services for various family types in one place, and establish itself as a community space for family communication.
In particular, by integrating the previously separate Healthy Family Support Center and Multicultural Family Support Center, it will resolve residents’ inconveniences and enable the provision of integrated services such as care, counseling, education, family exchange, and communication tailored to the increasingly diverse family types including single-person households, single-parent families, and multicultural families.
Following the final selection in this competition, the district plans to conduct a design competition and related services starting next year, begin construction in 2023, and open the ‘Songpa Family Center and Daycare’ in March 2025.
Mayor Park Seong-su of Songpa-gu stated, “We will make every effort to build the ‘Songpa Family Center and Daycare’ to expand public childcare infrastructure and provide necessary services to all families, including single-person households, in preparation for the increasing childcare demand.” He added, “We will faithfully carry out the comprehensive development plan for the Geoyeon-Macheon area and strive to improve residents’ quality of life by establishing various welfare and cultural infrastructures.”
