Hyundai Doosan Infracore, First Domestic Construction Machinery Company to Win US IDEA Grand Prize

[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Hyunjin] Hyundai Doosan Infracore, a construction equipment subsidiary of Hyundai Heavy Industries Group, announced on the 10th that its 10-ton class compact wheel excavator model 'DX100W' recently won the main prize at the '2021 IDEA Design Awards' in the United States, one of the world's top three design awards.

IDEA is an award hosted by the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) and is considered one of the world's top three design awards alongside Germany's Red Dot and the IF Design Award. This year's IDEA received a record total of 2,087 designs from 25 countries.

Hyundai Doosan Infracore explained that this is the first time a domestic construction equipment company has won the main prize at IDEA. With this award, Hyundai Doosan Infracore has now swept all three of the world's top design awards with its excavator designs, following the 2020 Red Dot main prize (model 'DX17z-5') and the 2021 IF Gold Award (model 'ConceptX').

The DX100W model, which won the main prize this time, is a 10-ton class compact wheel excavator designed to perform well in narrow working environments, which was highly evaluated. It features an independent drive circuit 4-wheel steer system that allows high-speed rotation and easy lane changes, and a practical design that expands the working radius by applying an articulated boom.

A Hyundai Doosan Infracore official said, "The DX100W is a newly developed lineup targeting the European compact wheel excavator market," adding, "We will target the global compact construction equipment market based on innovative operator-centered design and powerful performance."

Meanwhile, Hyundai Doosan Infracore also achieved results by having two excavator models selected for excellent product design in the industrial machinery and tools category at the Good Design Award, hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and organized by the Korea Institute of Design Promotion.
