Kim Ki-hyun to Prosecution: "Lee Jae-myung's Bulletproof Protection Squad... Criminal Neglect of Duty"

[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Seoyoung] Kim Gi-hyeon, the floor leader of the People Power Party, has demanded a thorough investigation from the prosecution currently investigating the preferential treatment allegations in the Daejang-dong development case.

Today (the 9th), Floor Leader Kim posted on his Facebook titled "Prosecution and police investigations that have lost public trust, reported for criminal dereliction of duty! The special prosecutor must be enforced!" He also said regarding Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party presidential candidate and Governor of Gyeonggi Province, "We cannot help but strongly warn the prosecution, which seems to have taken on the role of Lee’s 'bulletproof protection squad.'

Floor Leader Kim explained, "Is the prosecution conducting an investigation into the Daejang-dong 'Lee Jae-myung Gate,' the largest public-private power corruption real estate development case since the founding of Korea, or are they just playing games?" He added, "This is not an investigation to uncover the facts and truth but a cover-up operation to conceal them." He also criticized, "Since criminals tend to hide evidence, the prosecution is granted the authority to conduct search and seizure," and "So far, the prosecution has not conducted any search and seizure at Seongnam City Hall or Gyeonggi Provincial Government," and "This goes beyond mere negligence and constitutes criminal dereliction of duty."

Floor Leader Kim then mentioned Yoo Dong-gyu, the former head of Seongnam Urban Development Corporation and a key figure in the Daejang-dong development project, claiming, "The prosecution lied about the cellphone that was said to have been thrown out the window during the search and seizure of former Head Yoo." He added, "The prosecution, which had no intention of securing the cellphone that could have been found easily if they had wanted to, can only be seen as having no plan to find it from the start," and "If not, they must clearly explain why they have not found the cellphone so far and what efforts they have made to find it."

Floor Leader Kim urged, "A swift search and seizure must be conducted on all computers and work logs used by the secretaries and staff at Seongnam City Hall, all related documents and document receipt ledgers at Seongnam City Hall, as well as the computers, work logs, homes, offices, and cellphones of Lee Jae-myung, Kim Hyun-ji, and Jeong Jin-sang." He continued, "The detention period for former Head Yoo is running out," and raised his voice, "If the prosecution continues to hesitate and kowtow to power, we will file a criminal complaint with the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials against the prosecution leadership and investigation team for dereliction of duty."

At the end of his post, he emphasized, "Our People Power Party will see the special prosecutor through to the end to conduct a thorough and strict investigation regardless of party or rank, replacing the prosecution and police who are busy acting as henchmen of power." Floor Leader Kim concluded, "Because that is justice," and "Those who refuse the special prosecutor are the real culprits."
