Amway Korea Launches 'Scalp Nutrition' with Commemorative Survey
[Asia Economy Reporter Jo In-kyung] Six out of ten adults aged 20 to 50 in South Korea are concerned about hair loss or scalp issues.
Korea Amway announced on the 9th that a survey conducted with mobile research firm Open Survey from the 3rd to the 6th, targeting 400 adults nationwide aged 20 to 50, found that 62.3% have concerns related to hair health.
The respondents' biggest concern was "hair loss." Among the 62.3% who reported having hair and scalp concerns, 27.8% specifically pointed to hair loss as the main issue. This was followed by weak hair (19.9%) and thin hair volume (16.3%) as other major concerns.
In particular, when looking at respondents worried about hair loss by age group, 25.3% were in their 20s and 22.8% in their 30s, indicating significant hair loss concerns among younger people. When asked about when they started worrying about hair loss and scalp issues, 28.7% of those in their 20s and 26.7% of those in their 30s responded accordingly.
79.8% of respondents answered that "scalp care is necessary." However, when asked if they actually perform scalp care regularly, 79.3% answered "not at all" or "occasionally," showing that although they recognize the need, the actual practice rate is low. The reasons for not performing care included "considering symptoms not severe" at 38.8%, followed by lack of information (33.8%) and cost burden (31.7%).
Even among respondents who said they do perform scalp care, the time and money invested were not significant. 61.3% spent "less than one hour per month" on scalp care, and 60.5% spent "less than 50,000 KRW per month." The main scalp care methods practiced (multiple responses allowed) were "using functional shampoo (67.4%)" and "using related hair products (58.2%)."
This survey was planned by Korea Amway to commemorate the launch of seven new products in the scalp care line "Scalp Nutrition," aiming to assess consumers' concerns about scalp and hair loss and to raise awareness of the need for proper care. Scalp Nutrition consists of a helmet-type device called "Laser L400" and products applied in combination according to scalp concerns.
