[Asia Economy Reporter La Young-cheol] Gwangju City in Gyeonggi Province announced plans to promote its key project, the creation of the 'Neoreungol Natural Recreation Forest.'
On the 7th, Shin Dong-heon, mayor of Gwangju City, held an online briefing and explained the background of the project, saying, "Although forestland accounts for 67% of Gwangju City's total area, there are no forest recreation facilities," and "We decided to promote the 'Neoreungol Natural Recreation Forest' project by utilizing forest resources."
The 'Neoreungol Natural Recreation Forest' is planned to be developed over 400,000㎡ in the area of San 279-1, Usan-ri, Toechon-myeon. The detailed design will be completed in the first half of next year, with the goal of completion by the end of 2023.
The city plans to develop 39 lodging facilities including forest houses and treehouses, as well as a healing cafe where health programs can be conducted, an auto camping site, and a campground, aiming to foster Gwangju City as a leisure and tourism city.
Mayor Shin said, "With the mindset that 'regulations are assets,' this is the starting point to transform Gwangju into a natural tourist destination blessed by nature based on the given conditions," adding, "The natural recreation forest adjacent to Paldang Lake will offer beautiful scenery and a comfortable environment not only to Gwangju citizens but also to residents of the metropolitan area."
