Tourism Organization Signs Business Agreement to Promote Yeosu Smart Tourism City
[Asia Economy Reporter Donghyun Choi] The Korea Tourism Organization announced on the 6th that it has signed a business agreement with Yeosu City to promote the digital transformation of the tourism industry and provide customized smart tourism services. The agreement ceremony held yesterday at Yeosu City Hall was attended by Ahn Young-bae, president of the Tourism Organization, Yeosu Mayor Kwon Oh-bong, and related officials, who concretized cooperation measures for creating a smart tourism city.
The smart tourism city creation project aims to provide differentiated tourism services to tourists through the digitalization of tourism services and to improve the quality of the tourism experience environment by utilizing the accumulated data. This year, the project targets three locations including Yeosu City, Daegu Suseong-gu, and Suwon City. Yeosu and Daegu Suseong-gu were selected as part of the regional completion-type tourism model (KTTP: Korea Total Tour Package) project led by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and Suwon City, selected through a separate public contest, began development last month.
The smart tourism city, scheduled for completion by May next year, will be implemented around the Jongpo Marine Park area in Yeosu. The Organization and Yeosu City plan to develop the area into the ‘Bam·Di·Bul (Night Sea and Digital meet to experience a smart tourism city like fireflies)’ street, combining the beautiful Yeosu night sea, busking content, and ICT technology, making it a representative brand of Yeosu tourism. Facilities such as a large media wall providing continuous live busking content against the night sea backdrop, ‘interactive busking’ where graphics are displayed on the performance floor in response to busking music, and the ‘Bamdi Bul Art Street’ illuminating the night sea streets with light will meet the demands of the MZ generation seeking new experiences.
Services that visitors can enjoy with just one mobile device will also become more convenient. Various services including experience, convenience, service, transportation, reservation, and payment currently provided through five transportation and tourism apps operated by Yeosu City will be integrated into one. Additionally, on-site services such as ordering and payment using QR codes without waiting in line will be added to the integrated app.
Kim Kwon-gi, head of the Smart Tourism Project Team at the Korea Tourism Organization, stated, “The smart tourism city creation project is a core project of the KTTP initiative and is expected to create greater synergy by converging with other KTTP projects in the Jeonnam region.”
