As Part of 'Spreading a Horizontal Organizational Culture'
'Complete Dress Code Autonomy' Also Expected to Be Implemented
[Asia Economy Reporter Kwangho Lee] Shinhan Bank has dismantled the executive vice president-level secretariat to promote a horizontal organizational culture.
According to the financial sector on the 5th, Shinhan Bank has dismantled the executive vice president-level secretariat starting this month, and the support team will assist with related tasks. All employees who were in charge of secretarial duties have been transferred to branches.
This decision is part of the horizontal organizational culture expansion emphasized by Shinhan Bank President Jin Ok-dong since his inauguration in 2019.
At that time, President Jin said, "If we lead innovation with a horizontal and flexible perspective suitable for the digital era, Shinhan's culture will become even more solid," eliminating personal secretaries and managing his own schedule directly.
President Jin also drives himself when the driver leaves work, in accordance with the 52-hour workweek system.
Earlier this year, Shinhan Bank disrupted the traditional honorific culture and allowed each department to decide the titles they wish to use.
The company guideline states that managerial-level employees (deputy general manager level and above) can be called ‘Suseok’ (Senior), and others can be called ‘Manager’ or ‘Pro’, but departments can decide on different titles after internal discussions.
Each department’s newly decided titles have been registered in the internal system. These titles are used when communicating via the company bulletin board or messenger, as well as during meetings or phone calls with other departments.
Additionally, Shinhan Financial Group is expected to join this trend by implementing complete dress code autonomy, reflecting the opinions of the MZ generation. Currently, Shinhan Bank maintains a ‘no-tie suit’ policy for male employees and has abolished uniforms for female employees.
A Shinhan Bank official explained, "This executive secretary personnel transfer was carried out through discussions with executives to facilitate smooth communication and promote a horizontal organizational culture."
