Samsung Electronics Sponsors National Skills Competition for 15 Consecutive Years..."Discovering Outstanding Skilled Talent"

[Asia Economy Reporter Suyeon Woo] Samsung Electronics announced on the 5th that it will sponsor the '56th National Skills Competition' held from the 4th to the 11th of this month to foster and expand the base of excellent skilled personnel. Samsung Electronics has sponsored the National Skills Competition for 15 consecutive years since 2007 and selects outstanding players by job category to award the Samsung Electronics Sponsorship Award.


This year's competition will be held at seven venues including Donga Meister in Daejeon Metropolitan City and Chungnam Mechanical Technical High School, with about 1,800 players nationwide competing in 53 job categories such as Mobile Robotics, Mechatronics, and Mechanical Design CAD. In particular, three job categories?Cyber Security, Cloud Computing, and Industrial Drone Control?that were demonstrated as pilot events in the previous competition have been newly established as official categories this year.


Considering the COVID-19 situation, award ceremonies by job category will be held on-site at each venue, and videos of the award ceremonies by job category will be released online during the awards and closing ceremony on the 11th.

Samsung Electronics signed a 'Skills Promotion Agreement' with the Ministry of Employment and Labor in December 2006 and has been steadily supporting the National Skills Competition and the training of the Korean national team since 2007. Samsung was recognized for its contribution to achieving excellent results at the International Skills Olympics through support for national team training, receiving the Prime Minister's Group Commendation in 2009 and the Presidential Group Commendation in 2018.


Samsung Electronics sponsors 250 million KRW annually, the largest amount among sponsors, for the National Skills Competition, and provides 720 million KRW biennially for overseas training expenses and training materials for national team players participating in the International Skills Olympics. The total accumulated sponsorship amount reaches 9.5 billion KRW.


Additionally, Samsung continuously recruits outstanding skilled personnel who have participated in the national competition. The skilled personnel hired by Samsung who have competed as Korean national representatives at the International Skills Olympics have won a total of 28 gold medals, 16 silver medals, and 8 bronze medals.


Samsung Electronics has sponsored not only domestic competitions but also the International Skills Olympics since 2007, serving as the top title sponsor (OEP) for four consecutive competitions from 2013 to 2019. It also supported the domestic training of Russian and Vietnamese national players, who achieved excellent results, and Samsung Electronics was recognized for this contribution with commendations from the heads of government of both countries.
