Operation of Pure Donations, Creating a Warm Sangju City 365 Days a Year
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Ahead of the winter heating season, the ‘Sangju Yeontan Bank’ has reopened. The black ‘love lump’ Yeontan Bank is a project operated solely with pure donations.
On the 2nd, Sangju Yeontan Bank held its reopening ceremony for 2021 at Sinbong Church, located at the Sinbong-dong business site in Sangju, Gyeongbuk, and began its ‘Yeontan volunteer’ activities.
At the event, leaders of various organizations, sponsors, and volunteers gathered in one place. The Yeontan Bank set a goal for 2021 to distribute 100,000 love Yeontan briquettes to 300 households and 200 liters of heating oil each to 30 households. A small bazaar to help disadvantaged households was also held, selling excellent local agricultural products.
Kang In-cheol, CEO of Sangju Yeontan Bank, said, “This winter, we will create miracles with the hands and hearts of citizens for neighbors who have to endure cold and difficult times,” and added, “We ask for citizens’ love and participation in Yeontan sponsorship to make Sangju warm.”
The nonprofit organization Sangju Yeontan Bank opened on March 9, 2007, as the 17th branch of the National Yeontan Bank Association.
With pure donations rather than government subsidies, it has supported 1.47 million love Yeontan briquettes to about 37,000 households to date.
