[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyewon] Doosan Corporation announced on the 4th that it will participate in the '2021 International Electronic Circuit and Mounting Industry Exhibition (KPCA show 2021)' held from the 6th to the 8th at Songdo Convensia in Incheon.
Marking its 18th edition this year, the KPCA show is the largest domestic exhibition related to printed circuit boards (PCB) in Korea, where domestic and international PCB equipment and manufacturing companies, as well as facility companies, gather in one place to exchange the latest information and seek opportunities to pioneer new markets. This year, about 250 companies including Doosan Corporation, Samsung Electro-Mechanics, and LG Innotek are participating.
At this exhibition, Doosan Corporation will showcase copper-clad laminates (CCL), a core material of PCBs used in electronic device components such as smartphones, 5G communication equipment, data centers, and chipsets. Doosan's CCL products are mainly divided into package and communication equipment CCLs and flexible CCLs. In addition, the company also holds fuel cell electrodes and PFC (Patterned Flat Cable) products.
Package CCL is a material that electrically connects semiconductor chips and mainboards and protects semiconductors, categorized into memory semiconductors such as DRAM and NAND, and non-memory semiconductors such as CPU, GPU, and AP. These products can withstand high-temperature semiconductor processes and reduce electrical interference by lowering the dielectric constant, which is the sensitivity to external electric fields, thereby increasing information processing speed.
CCLs for wired and wireless communication equipment such as servers and communication base stations enable high-speed transmission even in high-frequency ranges and minimize data loss. Recognizing this technological capability, the product was registered as a world-class product in 2019.
FCCL is applied to smart devices such as smartphones and smartwatches, as well as wearable products. Reflecting the trend of decreasing size and weight of these devices and increasing communication speeds, Doosan produces thin and low-dielectric constant products.
In addition to CCL products, Doosan Corporation is internalizing its fuel cell business by producing electrodes, a core material of fuel cells. The company is also developing PFC, a material that connects cells, the smallest unit of electric vehicle batteries, and is preparing for mass production. Since PFC is thinner than existing connecting cables, it can include more cells, thereby increasing driving range.
Doosan Electronics BG Head Yoo Seungwoo said, "Electronics BG will continue its growth as the world's only supplier with a full lineup of high-end CCLs through continuous product development, proactive market response, and expansion of high value-added product ratios."
