A Trip to Gangdong Through Crafts...

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Jeong-hoon) will present various programs such as workshop experiences and craft markets under the theme "Gangdong Trip through Crafts" for 10 days from October 1 to 10 in celebration of Craft Week 2021.

'Craft Week' is an event that allows anyone to easily enjoy crafts in daily life, activates craft consumption, and widely promotes the value of crafts. It started in Seoul and Gyeonggi in 2018 and is now held nationwide.

During Craft Week, the district will operate fun and diverse craft programs at workshops located throughout Gangdong-gu (a total of 21), centered around the Guchonmyeon-ro workshop (operated by Ondo City Cooperative), in line with the theme of 'travel.'

Pre-registered participants will receive a travel package (ticket + pamphlet + in-flight snack, etc.) before the workshop experience and can enjoy a unique experience at the Guchonmyeon-ro workshop photo zone decorated like an airplane interior scene.

A handmade craft experience program such as making knit accessories in collaboration with Hanyang University (President Kim Woo-seung) and local residents will also be operated, with Professor Lee Yeon-hee from the Department of Clothing Studies invited to conduct the program at the Angel Workshop Hub Center.

Additionally, a craft market will be held over three days at the Angel Workshop Hub Center (108 Seongan-ro) and the Book Cafe Library Dadokdadok Guchonmyeon-ro Branch (321 Guchonmyeon-ro).

At the Angel Workshop Hub Center on October 1, various handmade crafts such as leather crafts, zero-waste products, handmade shoes, and postcards will be sold, while at Dadokdadok Guchonmyeon-ro Branch from October 2 to 3, ceramics, diffusers, rattan products, and more will be available.

The district has transformed the Seongan-ro area, previously home to illicit businesses, into Angel Workshop Street operated by 25 workshops, receiving great responses from residents. They are also promoting the establishment of additional workshops around Guchonmyeon-ro, continuously building a special relationship with crafts.

Lee Jeong-hoon, Mayor of Gangdong-gu, said, "I hope that residents, whose mental fatigue has accumulated due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, can find some healing time through the handmade craft experiences offered during Craft Week."
