[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] On the 1st, as the ruling party leadership showed signs of division over the issue involving Assemblyman Kwak Sang-do, presidential candidates from the People Power Party criticized Supreme Council member Cho Su-jin.
Former Assemblyman Yoo Seung-min stated on social media (SNS) that "I don't understand why the party leadership is divided over protecting Sang-do," and pointed out, "Because of 5 billion won, the 20s and 30s generation are withdrawing their support for our party, and can't you hear the voices of public anger?"
He criticized, "How can a Supreme Council member say something different on such a clear issue? Do you think you can win the presidential election like this? Even if he wasn't Assemblyman Kwak's son, would he have gotten a job at Hwacheon Daeyu and received 5 billion won?"
Assemblyman Cho and others raised opposition voices regarding the expulsion of Assemblyman Kwak.
Former Assemblyman Yoo insisted, "Let's be clear. Protecting Sang-do, protecting corrupt prosecutors, protecting corrupt Supreme Court justices... such protection of corruption cannot exist in the People Power Party," and argued, "To win against the Moon Jae-in administration and Governor Lee Jae-myung, we must be clean and confident ourselves."
He continued, "Shaking the party leader over baseless matters is shaking for the sake of shaking," and emphasized, "I clearly warn you. Stop protecting Sang-do."
Former Jeju Governor Won Hee-ryong also stressed on SNS, "If you don't like the temple, the monk should leave," and said, "There is absolutely no protecting Sang-do in the People Power Party."
Former Governor Won criticized, "If you have disagreements with Leader Lee's decision, attend the Supreme Council and discuss it. If you, like Supreme Council member Cho, do not even attend the Supreme Council and only play to the media outside, then there is no reason for you to be in the Supreme Council."
He said, "The public will see actions that cover up mistakes and create fake myths, like the Democratic Party, not Leader Lee, as reminiscent of the Chun Doo-hwan military regime," and criticized, "Supreme Council member Cho, who strongly attacked Democratic Party members by mentioning the Cho Kuk Protection Squad, shouting for protecting Sang-do only makes the public see Cho Su-jin's double standards."
People Power Party Assemblyman Ha Tae-kyung also stated on SNS, "Supreme Council member Cho must decide whether to stand with the People Power Party or with Assemblyman Kwak," and pointed out, "I was shocked to hear reports of conflict between Leader Lee and Supreme Council member Cho over the issue of Assemblyman Kwak's expulsion. Supreme Council member Cho is stubbornly insisting on an issue that is so obvious."
He criticized, "If we are not upright, how can we criticize the Democratic Party and appeal to the public for power? Is the 5 billion won performance bonus received by Assemblyman Kwak's son from Hwacheon Daeyu an amount that can be explained as a fair reward for labor?"
