Seoul Lifelong Education Promotion Institute - Hanyang Women's University, Agreement on 'Lifelong Vocational Education Operation'

Promotion of Lifelong Vocational Education Planning and Development to Enhance Citizens' Job Skills and Meet Vocational Training Demands

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Metropolitan Lifelong Education Promotion Institute and Hanyang Women’s University announced on the 1st that they have signed a business agreement to meet the interests and demands of Seoul citizens for vocational education and to operate high-quality lifelong vocational education.

Through this agreement, the two institutions plan to jointly develop lifelong vocational education courses under mutual cooperation and expand lifelong vocational education for citizens in the southeastern region of Seoul. The related education will be planned and operated as a process-centered program where learners directly experience and acquire skills, moving away from the theory- and lecture-centered education paradigm.

With the agreement between the two institutions, vocational specialized education is expected to be expanded in the southeastern region of Seoul (Gangdong to Seocho), where infrastructure was insufficient compared to the demand for vocational education. The Seoul Citizens University Southeastern Campus, operated by the Seoul Metropolitan Lifelong Education Promotion Institute, is the largest lifelong learning center in the southeastern region, operating seven academic departments and curricula reflecting civic demands and contemporary needs, as well as various spaces for citizen participation activities, learning, and practice.

Through this cooperation, the two institutions plan to actively utilize excellent infrastructure to plan and operate lifelong vocational education courses that provide practical help to citizens, with a particular focus on customized lifelong vocational education for women with careers and retirees.

The signing ceremony was held on the 30th of last month at the Seoul Citizens University Southeastern Campus, attended by Kim Joo-myung, Director of the Seoul Metropolitan Lifelong Education Promotion Institute, Na Seri, President of Hanyang Women’s University, and other related officials.

Director Kim Joo-myung said, “I hope lifelong vocational education will expand throughout Seoul in line with citizens’ vocational skill improvement and vocational education demands, and I will do my best to ensure lifelong vocational education continues through cooperation with various entities such as the private sector, government, and academia.”

President Na Seri of Hanyang Women’s University said, “Through the mutual agreement between the Seoul Metropolitan Lifelong Education Promotion Institute and Hanyang Women’s University, we look forward to a win-win role in revitalizing lifelong vocational education. We will fulfill our responsibility to actively utilize the excellent infrastructure of both institutions to develop and operate socially customized lifelong vocational education with practical training and experience.”
