[Asia Economy Yang Nak-gyu, Military Specialist Reporter] Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) announced on the 30th that it has signed a contract with the Defense Acquisition Program Administration for the ‘Landing Ship Fast (LSF-II) Simulator System Development Project.’
The contract amount is a total of 29.35 billion KRW, and KAI will deliver one set of simulators, including a mock cockpit, support equipment, and training for operating personnel, by 2024.
The Landing Ship Fast is a naval vessel deployed on large transport ships such as the Dokdo-class, performing amphibious operations and coastal defense missions by transporting troops, supplies, and equipment. It is a maritime force capable of high-speed navigation exceeding 70 km/h using an air-cushion method.
For participation in this project, KAI independently developed a motion dynamics model for naval vessels by integrating simulation technology from the aviation sector and has filed a patent for it.
A KAI official stated, “By implementing maritime 3D images and realistic models, we will provide training effects similar to real-life scenarios,” and added, “We will develop and deliver the optimal simulator for training and nurturing elite naval crew members.”
Meanwhile, KAI is preparing future projects that combine advanced 4th industrial revolution technologies and its existing capabilities for sustainable growth. It is focusing on fostering and investing in areas such as software including simulators, manned-unmanned teaming (MUM-T) systems, satellite/space launch vehicles, and future mobility (UAM).
