[Asia Economy Reporter Na Ye-eun] A claim has emerged that the famous donut franchise 'Dunkin Donuts' has been making donuts in unsanitary conditions.
According to a KBS report on the 29th, the ventilation system in the donut manufacturing facility at Dunkin's Anyang factory, filmed by a whistleblower, was covered with droplets that appeared to be grease, oil vapor, and iron oxide condensation. Yellow substances were found scattered throughout the flour dough, which an expert explained as likely being rust or grease droplets that had fallen.
Additionally, black substances were found inside the syrup container used to coat the fried donuts. Experts said the substance was likely mold, but Dunkin Donuts explained that it was "not mold but grease."
The informant pointed out, "The internal standard at Dunkin Donuts is to clean the fryer once a week with hot water and chemicals, but the production line did not properly follow this standard, and middle managers instructed to only replace the oil and continue operating the equipment," adding, "This was to meet excess production volume."
In response, BR Korea, a subsidiary of SPC Group that operates Dunkin Donuts, claimed, "The ventilation system is cleaned daily, but someone deliberately neglected cleaning, causing this issue," and added, "The oil containers are also cleaned once a week, and photos are taken as proof."
