[Asia Economy Reporter Chunhee Lee] Kwangdong Pharmaceutical announced on the 29th that it will launch 'Dualpamo Tablets,' a gastrointestinal medicine that can simultaneously suppress and neutralize stomach acid.
Dualpamo Tablets, released as an over-the-counter (OTC) drug, contain famotidine, which inhibits stomach acid production, combined with magnesium hydroxide and calcium carbonate, which neutralize stomach acid. Due to the nature of this combination formulation, it is explained that taking one tablet without additional antacids can be expected to relieve heartburn related to excessive stomach acid and indigestion.
Famotidine formulations are filling the OTC gap left by ranitidine formulations, which were banned due to the detection of the carcinogenic substance NDMA. According to the industry, combined sales of four famotidine OTC products in the first quarter of this year increased about 20 times compared to the same period last year.
Dualpamo Tablets are light green, rectangular film-coated tablets, packaged in sets of 20 tablets. Patients aged 15 and older should take one tablet once daily according to the pharmacist's instructions.
A Kwangdong Pharmaceutical representative said, "Dualpamo Tablets improve dosing convenience by allowing three effective ingredients for excessive stomach acid to be taken at once," adding, "With packaging for 20 doses, it is expected to become a staple medicine for adults who occasionally experience symptoms of excessive stomach acid."
